Precision Psychiatry

Precision medicine is an emerging paradigm, popularized by Obama’s “Precision Medicine Initiative”, that aims to personalize medicine by taking into account a person’s variability in genes, environment and lifestyle. This is particularly challenging for Psychiatry, which has not yet benefitted from advanced diagnostic technologies that form a part of other specialties.

In the last two decades, research into functional neuromarkers in psychiatric conditions such as ADHD, schizophrenia and OCD indicate that some neuromarkers are reliable in discriminating patients from healthy controls. QEEGs and ERPs have been enormously useful in identifying these neuromarkers and has the potential to transform the field of psychiatry.
